Design

Charts

Every figure the product draws, in the place it is drawn: the screen or card, who reads it, the question it answers.

The product draws its charts with Recharts. This page draws each use as static inline SVG on the same tokens, in Recharts’ idiom, so both themes come free and no chart is a picture. Every figure is read from the sample company’s records; none is typed.

Power BI reads read-only views over the same records (VIW-C48, D-038): long trends of the live pipeline, forecast against actual and fees at risk belong there, not here (D-022).

Colours, never hue alone

  • The figure--color-chart-actual
  • The forecast or the target--color-chart-forecast
  • The empty part of a bar--color-chart-track

The categories of the domain, each with its word and icon beside the colour:

Good 70+Fair 40–69Poor under 40
ExceptionalGoodAcceptableWeak LandPartnershipsConstructionBack Office

Against a target: green on target, amber within 10%, red more than 10% below (S-03 CORE-10b), always with its icon and word:

On targetWithin 10%Below target

Axes and legend

  • The unit stands on the axis or in the title: £, %, points, Sites.
  • A bar starts at zero; the zero line is drawn stronger than the grid.
  • Four to eight ticks, in round steps; money short on the axis (£2m), in full on the label.
  • Labels stand on the marks where they fit; a legend only where they do not, each colour with its word.
  • A target, a budget or a band is a line or a zone with its name on it.

Tooltip, by mouse and keyboard

  • It shows the mark’s name, its figure with the unit and the records it counts.
  • Tab moves from mark to mark; the tooltip opens on focus as on hover, Escape closes it.
  • It never holds the only way to learn a figure: every figure is also on the chart or in its table.

Loading, empty, and reduced motion

Loading figures…

No data for this period

A step or a cell with no records says “No data”, never 0%. A month not yet closed shows its figures to date and says so.

  • When a chart first shows, its bars grow from zero in the slow duration; with reduced motion they stand finished. A figure never counts up.

Tiles, meters, deal clocks and badges are not chart sections: they live on the Components page (Tile, Progress, Deal clock, Deal Health).

At 13 days the same Site stalls as at 14. The save goes ahead and no summary alert is sent.

A value that moves no Site: the strip gives way to one line, and the save stays open.
